ELSA J. SCHMIDT received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, magna cum laude, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory/History, magna cum laude, from the State University of New York at Potsdam and the Crane School of Music in 2003. She then attended the University at Buffalo School of Law and received a Juris Doctor with a concentration in Environmental Law in 2006.
At KSLN, Elsa concentrates her practice on insurance coverage litigation.
Prior to joining KSLN, Elsa concentrated her practice on complex environmental litigation under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) and its state analogues in New York and New Jersey, and related claims arising under the Bankruptcy Code and the New York Debtor and Creditor Law.
Elsa is admitted to practice in New York State, the United States District Court for the Western District of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
She currently serves as Director and Historian of the Niagara Frontier Section of the Air and Waste Management Association. She is also a member of the Bar Association of Erie County, and has served as an Attorney Advisor for the New York State High School Mock Trial Program.
Outside of KSLN, Elsa’s interests include camping, cooking, travel, piano, yoga, and live music.
