RICHARD T. SARAF is a 1984 summa cum laude graduate of Canisius College and a 1987 graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
Ric is a nationally recognized trial lawyer with 23 years of experience defending all manner of personal injury cases on behalf of individuals, insurance carriers, product manufacturers, municipalities, school districts, contractors, railroads and trucking companies. His primary practice focuses on the defense of insurance companies and their insureds. Ric specializes in legal issues involving municipal and law enforcement liability, county jails, police and sheriff’s departments, and school districts. He also defends such entities against lawsuits brought by detainees, as well as employees, and third party plaintiff claims for negligence.
Ric is an experienced trial and appellate attorney who has practiced extensively in both state and federal courts. As Vice-Chair of the Defense Research Institute’s Governmental Liability Committee, he is an active force in shaping the course of future developments in municipal law nationally. In addition, Ric is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Bar Association of Erie County and Defense Trial Lawyers Association of Western New York. He has published and lectured extensively for many professional and insurance organizations on topics including risk management, employment and municipal law, the New York State Labor Law, and capital improvement projects, and has presented substantive seminars state-wide and nationally.
When Ric isn’t working, he spends time with his wife, Dianna, and his daughter, Christina, exploring the Adirondack Mountain region. Ric and Dianna are also involved in perpetually improving their home and gardens and trying to keep up with their daughter who is a budding elementary school artist and social butterfly.
