ROBERT D. LEARY was born in Bloomington, Illinois, and raised in Acton, Massachusetts, before he relocated to Buffalo, New York, following a tour of active duty in the United States Navy. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1983.
Rob has, for more than twenty years, litigated and defended civil cases for many different insurance companies and self-insured corporations. Before joining KSLN in 2006, Rob was a Partner with Williams & Williams for several years and head of its litigation practice. Rob is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Erie County Bar Association, and the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association. He is also admitted to practice law in the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. Rob concentrates his practice in the defense of a variety of personal injury and property damage claims arising out of construction site accidents, premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, products liability and labor law issues. He also counsels clients on insurance coverage issues and the defense of workers' compensation claims.
Rob is an experienced litigator with a notable record of accomplishment in the courtroom, as well as before trial. He has successfully obtained summary judgment for many of his clients, and in no fewer than ten cases for one of his clients, an electrical contractor; and he has achieved several outright dismissals of claims against many of his other clientele following trial. He has earned a strong reputation as an outstanding oral advocate of his clients in the appellate courts, having acquired a significant number of victories in that forum as well as in the lower courts.
Rob, like all of the other attorneys at KSLN, is committed to unparalleled personal service to his clients and the tenacious pursuit of success in and out of the courtroom. He has recently retired with the rank of Captain from the United States Navy Reserve after thirty years of service to his country and his personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Rob and his wife, Lucy, are the proud parents of a daughter and three sons, and have, for many years, followed their growth and development from children to young adults, and are now looking forward to pursuing other hobbies and interests as their youngest son completes secondary school. Rob is an avid gardener and likes to think of himself as a runner, although his children would call it jogging.
