Tim Delahunt practices exclusively in the area of New York insurance law. Tim represents insurance carriers and other insurance professionals throughout New York. His litigation practice is statewide, with a particular emphasis on coverage litigation in the five New York City boroughs, Long Island, and Westchester, in addition to litigation Upstate in Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany. Tim's clients include major national insurers, mutuals, specialty insurers, surplus lines carriers, third-party administrators, managing general agents, and brokers and agents.
Tim is an experienced trial and appellate litigator in both state and federal courts. He also counsels clients regarding coverage and underwriting issues outside of or in advance of litigation. Tim's practice involves all facets of New York coverage law under both first-party and liability coverages, including CGL, business property, builders risk, D&O, E&O, business interruption, inland marine, auto, and homeowners, among others.
Tim is a frequent speaker and writer on insurance law issues. Tim has been a featured speaker at insurance coverage seminars and events across the state and the country, including events sponsored by the American Bar Association, the New York Unified Courts, and the American Association of Managing General Agents, among others. He is a regular speaker at New York State Bar Association seminars on insurance coverage topics. Tim is also one of four national editors of the ABA's upcoming treatise on the law of insurance and indemnification in construction. Tim was selected as a New York "Super Lawyer" in 2008 and 2009.
Tim is a 1994 graduate of the University of Rochester (Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude) and a 1997 graduate of Cornell Law School. He began his practice at the Rochester headquarters of Nixon Hargrave Devans & Doyle (now Nixon Peabody). Tim then practiced for several years in Washington, D.C., where he represented policyholders at coverage boutique Gilbert Heintz & Randolph (now Gilbert Oshinsky). In 2004, he joined KSLN as a member of the firm's coverage practice group. Tim is admitted in New York and Washington, D.C., and is admitted to practice before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Western, and Northern Districts of New York, and the District Court for Washington, D.C.
